I created Koi Pond as a contemplative exercise. The composition encapsulates a moment of serenity. I was inspired by the Koi fish at Maymont, located in the Japanese Gardens. Koi are one of the strongest and most fortitudinous species. They swim vigorously even in cold climates and live longer than the average fish. They are a symbol of good fortune and health. There is a peace that washes over you when sitting in their presence. The arrangement of the composition came together to include the vivacious spirit of the Koi and the peaceful fortune they bring to their audience.
